The Miscellany

iHATE is outrageous. I'll give it that. A lot of the arguments are off the cuff, sometimes whimsical, sometimes sarcastic, sometimes very caustic. It's not a newspaper, it's not law. It's just here.

Now why? Why do I make so many people so very angry? Well, the idea is that when I tell you something and it makes you blood-boilingly irate, then I have hit a nerve. If what I have to say bothers you that much... if my little opinion upsets you that badly... then step back and look at yourself. Why does what I have to say push your buttons? What is it that makes you so angry?

It can't really be me, can it? Someone you've never met, some disembodied text on a PC?

All I really wanted, from the very start, was to make everyone just take a little look at their own belief systems and ask a few questions.

Now, so much time has gone by since the first time I've said that... I now realize that I will never change anyone's mind. No one wants to question their own belief systems. No one will ever come away from this page thinking "My God! I've been molded by society! I'm not even my own person! They've been telling me how to think all along!"

Never happens.

So why do I keep doing this? Well, I stopped for about a year, and received so much mail from so many people that agree with all of this that I don't think it would be right to just go away. I wish there were more sites out there with writing... just writing... no download time, no pictures of cats, no lame top ten lists. It all feels so hopeless sometimes... I like getting mail from people that say they agree. That they see the world much as I do. That things are wrong.

A lot of them write me from small towns, where they can't find anyone who sees what they see. A lot of them really thought they were wrong, or lost, or completely alone in their beliefs.

So this is why I keep it up.

I want all of the people out there who think like this to have something to read when they're home at night, drinking coffee and pissed at the world.

And most of all, I'd like to be entertaining. There is nothing here that hasn't been said before... so I'd just like to say it enjoyably.
