The Miscellany

5 July

Ever diligent, I have another new one for you. This is one of the Society rants, and one of my more hopeless and angry (and thus, less amusing) pieces, but I can't always play the clown. Some of this stuff really bothers me quite a bit.

Of course, now that it's all been uploaded, I know I'm going to get plenty of mail about how I'm just being very negative, I am completely wrong or just overreacting. I am not going to respond to those people until they take off their blinders.

What else? Oh yes, I've given up on my sleepy little town locale (I moved here on a whim because I never want to be one of those people who's never lived more than a half hour away from his parents) for a much bigger city. It'll be a rough transition, and I probably won't have a computer for a little bit, so iHATE may be a little quiet after August 1st. This is a symptom of me always moving to places where nobody knows me. Time to make a fresh start.

Of course, the site will remain standing through the move. I will continue to do my best to check the hatemail, but I'm not promising anything. During my last move, I got three emails from some guy, the last of which he seemed very irate that he'd been trying to learn more about me and I wasn't writing him. At the time, I was couch surfing, homeless, trying to find a new place (still working-- these things are always harder when you don't have income). I finally responded to him from the college library computer with a "I haven't had access to a computer lately because I don't have a house right now, sorry if this has been inconvenient for you" letter.

The sarcasm missed him completely.

He wrote back saying that it was okay, no inconvenience, just write him when I had the time.

I do write back to people. Some mail I get is very interesting, well written, very compelling. I like mail with personality behind it... not just someone who sees themselves as an intellectual with some informed views on the world (though I do read these, and like the studied writers, I don't often respond to them because we've both presented out viewpoints, and I really don't have time for drawn out email debate), but someone with panache, flair.

And, of course, there are always times when I just can't respond to mail, no matter how good it is (and by "good," I mean anything compelling. Either well written or so vacuously funny I feel obligated to respond). If I have limited time on terminals that aren't mine, I just don't have time to write responses. Nothing personal.

Hatemail - Regardless of what you have to tell me, I stand by my claim... most people have their heads rammed so far up the collective Ass, they have to assult everything that isn't stuck up the ass with them. If you really can't tolerate that I don't believe what you believe, send me mail to reinforce my belief that you... well... have your head so far up the collective Ass that you need to assult me.
